Doyle Dominates Monarchs in 2-1 Win
Goalie stops 37 shots in first road victory for Lowell

Manchester, NH - Frank Doyle made 37 saves to lead the Lowell Devils (4-3-0-0) to a 2-1 triumph over the Manchester Monarchs (2-3-1-1) at Verizon Wireless Arena Friday night.

Lowell opened up a 1-0 lead by taking advantage of a miscue behind the net by Monarchs G Dan Cloutier.  Ivan Khomutov pounced on the chance and buried his team-leading third of the season at 11:55.  There were fireworks early as Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre got into a tussle in the opening minutes with Gabe Gauthier from the Monarchs.  Despite a 13-5 shot deficit, the Devils held the lead through 20 minutes.

The Monarchs tied the game up early in the second.  Brady Murray netted his first of the season at 5:55 to make it 1-1.  Frank Doyle continued to be the busier of the game’s two netminders, making 10 more saves in the middle frame, and 23 through the first 40 minutes.  Meanwhile, after 26 penalty minutes in the first period, neither team committed an infraction during the second.

Grant Marshall and the Devils regained the lead at 6:25 of the third.  His drive from the right circle made it 2-1 and gave him two tallies on the season.  Mike Pandolfo and Petr Vrana assisted on the goal.  Doyle shut the door the rest of the way.  He turned aside 14 shots in the third period and a season-high 37 shots in the game, en route to the first star of the game.

The Devils return home Saturday for a special 2:05 p.m. matinee against the Providence Bruins.  Everyone in attendance will have the chance to win a free Disney vacation, courtesy of Liberty Travel.  Also, there will be a kid’s costume contest during the game.
