Devils Hold Off Senators, 3-2
McKenna makes 47 saves to preserve win for Lowell
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Mike McKenna turned aside 47 shots – including all 25 he faced in the third period – as the Lowell Devils edged the Binghamton Senators, 3-2, on Saturday at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
In a game that saw all of the scoring in the second period, the Senators outshot the Devils 25-4 in the third in an effort to notch the equalizer. McKenna was able to stop them all for his 13th win of the season.
Michael Swift gave Lowell the lead juts 53 seconds into the second when he skated around the defense and tucked his 10th goal of the season through the five-hole of Mike Brodeur.
Lowell went up by two almost five minutes later on the power play as Nathan Perkovich tipped Matt Taormina’s wrist shot from the blueline inside the far post.
Brandon Svendsen then got Binghamton on the board at 7:19 of the second, completing a 2-on-1 rush with a quick shot from the near dot that rung off the iron and into the net.
The Devils went up, 3-1, at 14:04 of the same period after a lead pass by Swift sprung Patrick Davis down the right side where he went top shelf over the glove of Brodeur for his 11th of the season.
Svendsen would take advantage of a failed outlet attempt behind by the Lowell defense, intercepting a pass and snapping home his second goal of night with 1:12 remaining until the intermission to pull Binghamton with one.
