Devils Skate by Sharks in OT, 4-3
Swift’s game-winner lifts Lowell to seventh straight road win

WORCESTER, Mass. – Michael Swift’s goal at 1:55 of the overtime period gave the Lowell Devils a 4-3 win over the Worcester Sharks on Sunday at the DCU Center.  Stephen Gionta added a goal and an assist as the Devils extended their franchise-best road winning streak to seven games.

As he had done on Friday night against Hartford, Brad Mills was able to notch the go-ahead goal before the second intermission. Stephen Gionta feathered a pass toward the crease that Mills took away from goalie Alex Stalock and put it top shelf to make the score, 3-2.

The Devils would be unable to hold on the lead with Benn Ferriero gathering his second goal of the game with a wrister from the slot at 7:00 of the third.

In the extra session, Ben Walter skated the puck down behind the Worcester net before backhanding a pass in front for Swift to one-time into corner for his 12th goal of the year.

Lowell jumped ahead, 1-0, at 2:38 of the first when Alexander Vasyunov had wrist shot from the far wall stopped by Stalock, but Gionta fended off defenseman Nick Petrecki to dump in his 10th goal of the year.

Tyler Eckford pushed the Devils’ lead to two, blasting a power play goal past the glove of Stalock at 8:06 of the second.

The Sharks would battle back and get on the board midway through the period as Ferriero picked off a pass at the Lowell blueline and fired a slapshot from the near circle into the back of the net.

Skating on the man-advantage, Worcester knotted the score, 2-2, on Danny Groulx’s rocket from the point that sailed over the shoulder of Jeff Frazee.  Frazee picked up his 12th win of the season with a 31-save performance.

The Lowell Devils will host the Hartford Wolf Pack on Wednesday, February 3 at 7:00PM at the home of their NHL affiliate New Jersey Devils, the Prudential Center in Newark.   Listen to all of the Devils hockey action live on WWZN-1510AM or at ahllive.com.
