Devils Fought Off By Phantoms in Shootout, 3-2
Lowell rallies for second straight night to gain point

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. – The Lowell Devils rallied from two goals down against the Adirondack Phantoms, but would fall in the shootout, 3-2, on Saturday at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Trailing 2-1 late in the second period, the Devils would even the contest as their fifth power play of the game came to an end.  Cory Murphy sent in a wrist shot from the blueline that rattled in the crease before Stephen Gionta bounced in the loose puck with 1:48 left before the break.

A scoreless third period and overtime would send both teams into the shootout where Jared Ross gave Adirondack the lead in round one.   Gionta knotted things up in the fourth round, but Patrick Maroon would convert on the very next shot to put the Phantoms on top once again.  Goaltender Johan Backlund denied Brad Snetsinger on the ensuing opportunity to secure the win for Adirondack.

The Phantoms controlled much of the first period and went ahead 1-0 at 4:05 when Andreas Nodl’s pass from the sidewall found Jason Ward in the slot for a one-timer past Mike McKenna.

Stefan Legein extended Adirondack’s lead to two at 14:30, working a give-and-go on the rush with Jonathan Matsumoto and sending a backhander into the net.

Lowell would get on the board with 16.2 seconds until the intermission as Matt Toarmina beat Backland with a slapshot from the point during a 5-on-3 power play.

McKenna took the shootout loss, making 30 saves through overtime.
