Wolf Pack Pull Away For Win Over Devils, 6-2
Lowell wraps up five-game road stretch on Tuesday at Portland
HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford Wolf Pack scored four unanswered goals to break open a tied game and skate away with a 6-2 win over the Lowell Devils on Saturday at the XL Center. Corey Locke, Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau and Kris Newbury each had three points on the night for the Wolf Pack.
Down by one after one, Hartford would find the back of the net three times to take a 3-2 lead heading into the second intermission. Dan Byers knotted the game at one a piece just 1:37 into the period when he redirected Newbury’s point shot under the pads of Mike McKenna for a power play tally.
Less than four minutes later, Wolf Pack pulled ahead for the first time on Locke’s first of contest as he put his own rebound into the top of the net.
Lowell was able to respond on the man-advantage at 7:44 when Cory Murphy took a face-off win and drove a shot inside the near post with Tim Sestito setting the screen on Chad Johnson.
Hartford wrapped up the scoring in the middle period when Donald Brashear’s one-timer from the slot bounced off the back glass and over to the near post where Locke swatted in his second of the night with 53.4 seconds left until the break.
The Wolf Pack would post another three-spot in the final period to pull away for the win. Brodie Dupont and Newbury struck 1:19 apart in the first five minutes of the frame to put the Wolf Pack up 5-2.
Bobby Sanguinetti gave his team their sixth goal on the game when his centering pass from the corner went off a Devils defender and over the goal line at 11:22. That would end McKenna’s night as he finished with 23 saves. Jeff Frazee would face only one shot in 8:22 of relief.
Ben Walter got the game’s first tally when he stripped the puck from Ryan Garlock at the far circle of the Hartford zone and beat Johnson under the blocker at 7:54 of the opening stanza. The goal was Walter’s team-leading 20th of the season, the fourth straight season he’s reached that mark.
