Devils Double Up Pirates, 6-3

Prough scores twice as Lowell sprints to win

PORTLAND, Maine – The Lowell Devils scored four times in the first period en route to a 6-3 victory over the Portland Pirates on Saturday at the Portland Ice Arena.

Jeff Prough led the Lowell offense with two goals on the night.  The Devils forward picked up his first marker of the game and made the score, 2-0, at 10:35 of the first.  With less than five minutes left in the opening period, Nick Palmieri notched a power play goal and Alexander Vasyunov also beat goalie J.P. Lamoreaux to give a four-goal Devils cushion going into the first intermission.

Lowell made it 5-0 at 6:34 of the second as Prough gathered his second of the contest on an unassisted shorthanded tally.  Paul Byron got the Pirates on the board six minutes later, but Eric Castonguay would put the Devils back up by five just 1:00 into the third frame.

Gerald Coleman stopped 35-of-38 shots over three periods of play for Lowell.
