Devils Downed by Monarchs, 4-0

Barry Brust makes 41 saves for Manchester

LOWELL, Mass. - Barry Brust made 41 saves to lead the visiting Manchester Monarchs (41-19-6-1) to a 4-0 victory over the Lowell Devils (34-25-5-6) Saturday night at Tsongas Arena.

The offense came early for the Monarchs, as they opened up a 1-0 lead just 28 seconds into the game.  Tim Jackman potted his 14th of the season, beating G Jordan Parise with a rebound opportunity.  At 3:58 the Monarchs made it 2-0 on a goal by Matt Moulson, his first of two on the night and his 19th of the campaign.  The Devils did hold a 16-12 advantage in shots after the first 20 minutes.

In a penalty-free second stanza, the Monarchs again lit the lamp to make it 3-0.  Marty Murray notched his 11th of the season at 3:09 of the period.  Brust and Parise both saw 11 shots on goal in the frame.

Manchester’s backstop wrapped up his second shutout of the season by turning aside 14 third period shots, as the Devils again outshot the Monarchs 14-11.  Moulson netted his second of the game at 9:06 to put the cap on the scoring for the night.  Lowell continued to pelt Brust with shots all the way to the buzzer, even hitting a post with just seconds left in the game.  Brust finished perfect on 41 Devils chances, while Parise finished with 30 saves on the night.

Coupled with a victory by the Worcester Sharks tonight, the Devils slipped in the standings back to fifth place with 79 points.  The loss snapped Lowell’s nine-game unbeaten streak (5-0-0-4), and it was their first regulation loss since March 2nd.
