Power Play Lifts Devils, 3-2

Dan McGillis scores twice for Lowell

Worcester, MA - Dan McGillis scored two of the Lowell Devils (2-3-0-0) three power play goals en route to a 3-2 victory over the Worcester Sharks (3-2-0-2) at the DCU Center Saturday night.

Lowell opened the scoring, as they have in four of their five games this season.  Nicklas Bergfors potted his third goal of the season less than four minutes into the game to make it 1-0 Devils.  All three of the second-year winger’s tallies have come with the man advantage.  Defenseman Doug Murray knotted the game at one apiece with his second of the season later in the period.

The Devils regained the lead at 8:29 on a second period power play.  Dan McGillis sent a rocket to the top shelf just eight seconds into the advantage.  Rookie D Andy Greene picked up his first professional point on the goal.  The Sharks tied it up again by forcing a turnover in the Lowell zone.  Mike Iggulden snuck around the Devils defense and tucked it home at 12:34.

McGillis put the Devils up once again in the third.  Lowell’s third power play tally of the night made it 3-2, with Greene picking up his second helper of the evening.  The visiting Devils staved off Worcester’s pressure in the final minute of play to take the victory.  Frank Doyle stopped 30 shots for his second win of the season.

Devils Dittos: LW Barry Tallackson was recalled today by New Jersey.  He suited up for the Devils in Ottawa… D Alex Brooks rejoined Lowell on loan today.  He recorded one assist in three games in the NHL… LW Patrick Davis has a point in four of the Devils’ five games thus far… McGillis has two multiple point games this season.

The Devils open a home-and-home series with the Springfield Falcons on Friday, October 27th on the road. They will return home on Saturday, October 28th to complete the set with the Falcons.  Game time is 2:05pm.
